Grant proposal for Chitram ki Burj

Mr. Omkar Adhikari (Conservation Architect) and Ms. Ananya Mitra (Art Conservator) drafted a grant proposal for Chitram ki Burj, a visually spectacular room located within Mardana Mahal that is covered with paintings. This proposal was prepared with the reference to two previously made reports (Conservation Master Plan for the City Palace, Udaipur by Dronah and Preliminary Conservation Report of the Murals at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur by Mrinalini Bangroo) and on the basis of detailed visual analysis. The goal is to secure funds for the documentation, conservation and research related to this inimitable historical space.

Conservation and re-organization of the storage of the collection at 'The Mewar Regalia : Textiles, Costumes and Accessories'

The textile objects of 'The Mewar Regalia: Textiles, Costumes and Accessories' collection of the MMCF, are wonderful example of preservation of tradition as seen in the wearing styles of the Mewar region, adapted and innovated by successive generations of the royal family and court. The collection is redolent of the splendour of the city of the Maharanas and exudes an opulence that celebrates more a fullness of life than mere lavishness. They are, in general, of varying quality and historic importance and nevertheless one of the most instructive collections of Indian textiles known anywhere. It consists of traditional royal male, female and children costumes, royal furnishings, royal processional animal trappings, religious textile objects and accessories etc.

Ms. Smita Singh, Textile Conservation Consultant from Delhi in association with Ms. Jyoti Jasol, General Manager Events, MMCF, The City Palace Udaipur has started a project for the conservation and re-organization of the storage of this collection at MMCF, The City Palace, Udaipur in November 2016 with three objectives

A. Preventive conservation of textile collection

B. Reorganization and designing of textile storage and

C. Curative conservation of textile collection.

Mr. Rajiv Paliwal has been deputed by MMCF to carry out conservation procedures along with the conservation team of consultant. He will be trained during the entire project in storage related activities vis-à-vis security, handling documents, preservation procedures and, the uniqueness and importance of the collection for future preservation.

Replacement of new Stone Balusters (Thambli) on terrace of Toran Pol

The broken cement Balusters (Thambli) on Terrace of Toran Pol (facing Manek Chowk) were totally damaged with the period of time were replaced.

The work of removing of all damaged Thambil's commenced in April 2017. These were manufactured in local stone by craftsman and fixed on site with copper dowel and adhesive.
