26th Annual Shukla Day Coin & Philately Fair 2017 At the Expo Centre, World Trade Centre, Mumbai

In the honour of the 'Numismatics Stalwart'- Shri Sadashankar Mansukhlal Shukla, who pioneered in India, the interest in Coins, archival supported by 'The Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies', Anjaneri (Nashik) and 'Indian Coin Society', Nagpur. He worked on the field covering the period from ancient to modern India.

Ms. Purva Bhatia, Executive - MMCF Outreach Programmes, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation attended the classes that were held on all the three days of the workshop.

On 21st April a lecture on Brahmi script, evolution of scripts till date and they made us read Pali language and write in Brahmi Script. It was a very different experience and very important for an archaeology student. Brahmi is the most ancient script of India deciphered in 1835 by Sir James Princep as Indus script is not yet deciphered. Most of the ancient inscriptions and coins are in Brahmi script and all the other scripts such as Kharosti and Devnagri have also evolved from Brahmi.

On the first day, a session was organised in which Dr. Dhiraj Chaudhary, Asst. Professor (Ancient Languages) Nagpur University, explained the alphabets used in Ashokan Brahmi and its later evolution through slides.

On 22nd April Dr. Dheeraj Choudhary explained 4 Ashokan inscriptions (Sarnath, Lumbini and Girnar, Kalinga).

Shri Prashant Kulkarni( President, Indian Coin Society, Nagpur) explained ancient coins and their script.

On 23rd April the session was taken by Professor Chandra Shekhar Gupta (Trustee, Indian coin Society, Retd. HOD, History Department, Nagpur University). He explained the relevance of coins in Indian history and there reference as artefacts in Archaeological evidences.
