A gift from MMCF to The Officer's Mess, 22nd Battalion The Rajputana Rifles
The Officer's Mess, 22nd Battalion The Rajputana Rifles is proud and happy to mount a very special gift from Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar of Udaipur, Chairman and Managing Trustee of MMCF on its walls – a replica of a centuries-old painting depicting the Battle of Haldighati. The painting was presented to Col. Aditya Singh, SM Commanding Officer, 22nd Battalion The Rajputana Rifles. The artwork stands for much more than is visible on the canvas.
The Battle of Haldighati fought on 18th June, 1576 has had a fond connection with the dynasty of Mewar for centuries. At the same time it enjoys a deep connection with the Indian military. The guerrilla warfare strategy used by Maharana Pratap to fight a much larger Mughal army is of great significance amongst others. This war was not a war for wealth or power, but one for sovereignty and secularism. Hakim Khan Sur, Chief of artillery in Maharana Pratap's army fought full force against the Mughal army, despite of being a Muslim himself. This battle will remain to be the biggest one in India's history for not just its magnitude but for reasons far beyond. The war that does Mewar proud shall now also honour the walls of the Officer's Mess and inspire our soldiers every day, reminding them of India's brave martyrs like Maharana Pratap who went all out to get India its freedom!.
