Visit of Prof. J.S. Hawley

Prof. J.S. Hawley, Claire Tow Professor of Religion at Barnard College, Columbia University, USA visited The City Palace Museum, Udaipur from 7th to 10th February 2023 for his next book-project on the Sur-Saagar illustrated manuscript. His research is focused on the religious life of north India and on the literature that it has spawned in the course of the last 500 years. Formerly, in 2018, he received the Col. Tod award by the Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual Awards.

International Conference on Animals in the History of South Asia

Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Associate Curator, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur presented a paper at an International Conference titled 'Animals in the History of South Asia', organized by the Department of History, Mohanlal Sukhadiya University, Udaipur from 2nd - 3rd February 2023. As a MMCF representative, his topic was ' Artifacts as evidence of animal by-products based industries: From the collection of The City Palace Museum, Udaipur'.

Conservation Conclave and fellowship completion

The Conservation Conclave was organised at the CSMVS Museum under the aegis of the ConserveArte: Citi-CSMVS Art Conservation Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (SRAL) and the Mellon Foundation from 22nd to 25th February 2023.

This conclave envisioned the future of conservation in India and also celebrated the culmination of the Indian Conservation Fellowship Programme (ICFP). As an ICFP fellow, Ms. Anuja Mukherjee represented The City Palace Museum, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur on this platform where she presented her work both at her home institution and the new learnings from her host institution (SRAL); highlighting the various possibilities to upgrade the situation in the Museum field in India, in general and Conservation, in particular, for a better future. At the end of the Conclave, she was awarded with a certificate for successfully completing her fellowship.
