National Conference on 'Origin and History of Sacred spaces in Hinduism'

On 13th January 2023, Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Associate Curator, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur presented his paper titled ' Religious Conditions in South Rajasthan and Archaeological evidences' at the National Conference on 'Origin and History of Sacred spaces in Hinduism: Understanding Geography, Archaeology and Epigraphy of Temples and Religious Architectures'. The conference was held on 11th - 13th January 2023, at J.R.N. Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University, Udaipur.

Contribution of Mewar to Astrology and Astronomy

MMCF organized a symposium "Contribution of Mewar to Astrology and Astronomy" on the 14th January 2023 at MMCF Conference Hall, The City Palace, Udaipur, In the modern times, various families are following astrological practises from generation to generation and serving the Mewar region. This symposium attempts to bring all these aspects under one roof, and enable a better understanding about the Astro-History and documenting the traditional knowledge. In the ancient Mewar, many evidences related to astrology and astronomy found in literature, inscriptions and architecture remains.

Contribution of Mewar to Astrology and Astronomy

In the medieval phase, Mewar rulers patronized both the practises in various dimensions like architecture (Vastu), traditional knowledge and rituals. The 47th Custodian of House of Mewar Maharana Kumbha was a well known architect and a scholar of astrology.

Under the patronage of Maharana Kumbha, Mandan (Chief Architect of Maharana Kumbha) wrote Devtamurtiprakaran, Rajvallbha Vastushastram Sutradhar Mandan, Prasad Mandan etc. Natha Mandan's brother also wrote the Vastimanjhari and Mandon's son Govind also wrote Uddhardhorni, Kalanidhi, and Dwardipika. To continue to follow the tradition, Chakrapani Mishra wrote the Rajyabhishek Padati and Muhurtmala under the patronage of Maharana Pratap. Religious rituals are mentioned in various inscriptions and copper plates of Maharanas. Mr. Bhupendra Singh Auwa, Administrator in Chief, MMCF presented the introductory lecture followed by lecture on City Development according to Astrological and Astronomical terms by, Historian, Udaipur.
