Access and Inclusion Publication

Ms. Chelsea Santos, Assistant Curator had attended the Commonwealth Association of Museums' workshop on Access and Inclusion in South and Southeast Asian Museums from November 28-30, 2019 at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur, India, with a post-workshop tour to Bikaner and Nagaur December 1-3.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with ICOM ICTOP and ICOM India, and received participation of twenty professionals from five countries; Canada, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, along with two others joining in on Skype from Bangladesh and Pakistan, the learnings from which were included in this publication.

In a small note on The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, Ms. Santos talks about the extensive work on Access and Inclusion already in play at the Museum, and the future plans to incorporate some of the new ideas that she had drawn from the workshop she attended.

Maharana Sajjan Singh Jayanti

The 161th Maharana Sajjan Singh Jayanti was celebrated on 08th July 2020 by MMCF by posting his historical achievement and paintings on Eternal Mewar social media pages. He is known as the pioneer of the development work in Udaipur. Maharana Sajjan Singh and Political Agent Charles Bean Euan Smith inaugurated Sajjan Hospital near Kunwarpada Mahal, Udaipur on 7th December, 1882 after which it was opened for public. Then, Shepherd Mission Hospital was also opened at Dhanmandi, Udaipur which was extended by Maharana Fateh Singh. Birth and Death registrations at hospitals were started in 1882. Free Medication and vaccination were provided at the hospitals on state expense.

Maharana Karan Singh Jayanti

Social media posts marking the 437th birth anniversary of Maharana Karan Singh (r. 1620-28 CE) was published. He was born on Shravan Shukla 12th Vikram Samvat 1640. He is remembered as the Prince who brought peace to Mewar. Since the times of Maharana Kumbha, Mewar was proudly defending its territories against the invaders till the time of Maharana Amar Singh I (r. 1597 - 1620 CE).
