Holika Dahan Ceremony 2019

Holi, the festival of colors is one of the most popular of Indian festivals and is celebrated when winter gives way to spring. This year it was celebrated on 20th March 2019.

Holika Dahan is the first day of the popular Indian festival of colors called Holi. On this day a pious fire is lit on the full moon night of Phalguna month of the Hindu calendar. According to Hindu mythology, it demonstrates the triumph of divine power over demonic strength.

The Holika Dahan Ceremony held at The City Palace, Udaipur, witnesses a magnificent colourful palace procession with marching bands and display of Mewar's pageantry witnessed the participation of Family-Members of the House of Mewar. Including Shriji , Smt. Vijayraj Kumari Mewar, Ms. Padmaja Kumari Parmar, Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Mrs. Nivritti Kumari Mewar, Ms. Lokaviaa Mewar Rathore , Miss. Rohitta Kumari Parmar, Miss. Mohlakshika Kumari Mewar and Miss Chunanda Kumari Parmar. The royal parade in their traditional attire-finely liveried palace staff, elegantly bedecked horses and the impeccably turned out band that leads the cavalcade through the Palace from the royal residence Shambhu Niwas Palace to Manek Chowk. The spectacle of ceremonies, with religious rites conducted, culminated in the lighting of the pious fire of Holika Dahan, followed by "Daang" dance performance on Holi theme by the Folk Artists from Gujarat.
