Maharana of Mewar Charitable Inauguration of Tinted by Tradition hand coloured Photography exhibition at Bhagwat Prakash Photo Gallery Nearly 100 photographs were on display illustrating the creative work of hand colouring on black and white photographs. The photographs are coloured so naturally that it is often difficult to realize they were originally black and white. Amongst the collection were a number of photographs taken of ancestors of the House of Mewar. Put together by Mr. Pramod Kumar KG of the New Delhi-based museum consultancy Eka, this exhibition articulates the continued tradition of painted photographs in Udaipur through the work of Mr. Waswo X. Waswo and Mr. Rajesh Soni, contextualised through examples from their large oeuvre of work of their predecessors maintained at the Pictorial Archives of the Maharanas of Mewar. Mr. Waswo X. Waswo, Mr. Rajesh Soni and Mr. Pramod Kumar KG guided dignitaries through the exhibition and explained details of each portrait in the Gallery. Many of the pictures were painted by Mr. Rajesh Soni with the photography by Mr. Waswo. Mr. Waswo X. Waswo is an American artist, photographer and writer who came to India 10 years ago and has been working with Udaipur based artists, Mr. Rajesh Soni for the past 7 years. The exhibition was organized by Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur with the aim to promote tradition and culture of Rajasthan. The exhibition will close on the 31st March 2012.
